(MOONBATTERY Hat-Tip) Author, art professor, feminist, and cultural commentator Camille Paglia speaks on the current transgender mania, the wisdom of early medical & surgical intervention (calling it “child abuse”), and how the explosion of gender identities is a recurring sign of cultural collapse throughout the history of civilization.

Feminist and Bernie Sanders supporter Camille Paglia isn’t toeing the liberal party line when it comes to transgenderism.

“The cold biological truth is that sex changes are impossible. Every single cell of the human body remains coded with one’s birth gender for life,” she told The Weekly Standard in an interview published June 15.

The author of “Sexual Personae”, Paglia identifies herself as “a registered Democrat who voted for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary and for Jill Stein in the general election.”

“It is certainly ironic how liberals who posture as defenders of science when it comes to global warming (a sentimental myth unsupported by evidence) flee all reference to biology when it comes to gender,” said Paglia.

Ryan Anderson, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, agrees about the importance of biology to the discussion.

“The best biology, psychology, and philosophy all support an understanding of sex as a bodily reality, and of gender as a social manifestation of bodily sex. Biology isn’t bigotry, and we need a sober and honest assessment of the human costs of getting human nature wrong,” said Anderson, author of the forthcoming book on transgenderism, “When Harry Became Sally.”

Paglia also condemned calls for “special rights, protections, or privileges” for  transgender men and women:

In a democracy, everyone, no matter how nonconformist or eccentric, should be free from harassment and abuse. But at the same time, no one deserves special rights, protections, or privileges on the basis of their eccentricity. The categories ‘trans-man’ and ‘trans-woman’ are highly accurate and deserving of respect. But like Germaine Greer and Sheila Jeffreys, I reject state-sponsored coercion to call someone a ’woman’ or a ‘man’ simply on the basis of his or her subjective feeling about it. We may well take the path of good will and defer to courtesy on such occasions, but it is our choice alone………

At a recent talk at Duke University on “Trans & Gender Diverse Policies, Care, Practices, & Wellbeing,” surgeon and “trans affirming” doctor Marci Bowers, who transitioned at the age of 38, admitted that children who undergo transition before puberty will never have adult sexual function or experience orgasm.

“An observation that I had,” said Bowers, “every single child who was, or adolescent, who was truly blocked at Tanner stage 2,” which is the beginning of physical development, when hormones begin their work of advancing a child to adulthood, “has never experienced orgasm. I mean, it’s really about zero.”

This raises huge and glaring red flags about the concept of “informed consent” for children and teens who are ushered into transition. How can a child, or a pre-teen, who has never experienced sexual satisfaction, orgasm, sexual intimacy, consent to giving that up?….

THIS is an amazing instruction from the Court! It is maddening! This is America!

What allows this thinking are the millions of voters who just think that someone’s feelings override the dignity of what it is to be human. What either nature has honed for millions of years (for sake of the argument) or what God has created. And this is what the Left is doing… the base of the Democrat Party expresses their hubris in thinking it can control both weather and gender through legislation and the courts. ASININE! That entire Federalist article by Walt Heyer should be read. (So should Walt’s book, PAPER GENDERS.)

Walt Heyer, in the article, notes the similarity of his story and James (the boy at the center of this FUBAR):

…Somewhat like James, my cross-dressing occurred under one adult’s care, but away from grandma’s I was all boy with my mom and dad. Also, just like James, I found my way into the office of a gender therapist, who quickly started me toward transition.

When his mother, a pediatrician, took James for counseling, SHE CHOSE A GENDER TRANSITION THERAPIST WHO DIAGNOSED HIM WITH GENDER DYSPHORIA, a mental conflict between physical sex and perceived gender. James’ precious young life hinges purely on the diagnosis of gender dysphoria by a therapist who wraps herself in rainbow colors, affirms the diagnosis of gender dysphoria, and dismisses evidence to the contrary. Remove the “rainbow” from James’ diagnosis, and it crumbles under the weight of the criteria for the diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

The diagnosis is critical, because labeling a child with gender dysphoria can trigger a series of physical and mental consequences for the child and has legal ramifications in the ongoing custody case. Get it wrong and young James’s life is irrevocably harmed.

James Does Not Fit the Gender Dysphoria Criteria

The criteria for a diagnosis of childhood gender dysphoria are that a child be persistent, consistent, and insistent about being the opposite sex. James’s mom is “all in” on the diagnosis of gender dysphoria and assisting with social transition. She used the name Luna to enroll him as a girl in first grade, and provides only female clothes.

Meanwhile, Dad isn’t seeing signs of gender dysphoria. In the father’s home, James appears to be a normal boy and doesn’t identify as a girl. He has a choice of boy’s or girl’s clothes there, and he chooses to dress as a boy. The fact that James changes gender identity depending on which parent is present makes the diagnosis of gender dysphoria both dubious and harmful.

The transition therapist has observed that James is not consistent, insistent, or persistent in the desire to become “Luna.” For example, a dossier filed with the Dallas court says that, under the skilled eyes of the therapist, the child was presented two pieces of paper, one with the word “James” and one with the word “Luna,” and asked to pick the name he preferred. When the appointment only included his mother, James selected Luna, the name and gender he uses at his mother’s home and in his first-grade classroom. When the appointment was only with his father, however, James pointed to the boy name James, not the girl name.

The glaring disparity between a child’s preferred identity when in the presence of one parent versus the other should cause a therapist to reassess, perhaps nullify the diagnosis of gender dysphoria, and terminate any steps toward transition. But in the case of James, this  hasn’t happened….

WHEN TRANSGENDERS SEE REALITY

Obviously, as an evangelical Christian I would want a different path for Blaire to be realized. However, THAT BEING SAID, his approach to reality will distinctively help with the psychological angst many transgenders feel about their gender (i.e., gender dysphoria).

…..Gender dysphoria is considered by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to be a “mental disorder,” while the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes it as a “mental illness.”

“You wish you could just change everything about you, you just see any girl and you say I’d kill to be like that,” Mitchell says in the interview.

Mitchell received support from his mother to begin transitioning, and after taking hormones, he began to grow breasts.

“In the beginning of 2017, teachers at school began to refer to him as a girl which triggered Mitchell to question if he had made the right decision,” the independent added.

After reflecting on the decision to become a girl, Mitchell decided that he no longer wanted to be a girl.

“I began to realize I was actually comfortable in my body. Every day I just felt better,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell has stopped taking female hormones as he attempts to go back to being a boy and is expected to have surgery to remove the breasts he grew during his time as a girl.

…Maybe the caring adults in this kid’s life should have sought out mental health resources to help learn to love and accept his physical body. Gender dysphoria is, after all, a condition of the mind, not the body.

Especially among children, whom adults don’t trust to make any serious life choices unless there is a sexual proclivity attached to them. Adults don’t trust children to take an Ibuprofen tablet when they have a headache; but they are allowed unrestricted access to abortions and body altering hormones.

Transgenderism, uniquely among identity disorders, is treated by indulging the delusions of the person that their body is something other than it really is. We don’t treat people who feel they should be disabled by disabling them. We don’t treat anorexic people by helping them starve. We don’t treat people who think they’re Joan of Arc by burning them at the stake.

I think the  reason… the reason no one will admit to… is because unlike those other disorders, transgenderism is considered sexy and kinky. I have no proof, it’s just a feeling. Progressives identify with transsexuals because it seems like a kinky fetish. They’re into that.

And there are real world consequences to treating transgender dysmorphia like a disorder of the body instead of the mind. Suicide rates among post-operative transgendered people attest to this. But the point is, progressive societies are less concerned with helping people with body identity disorders than they are about feeling good about their feelings… and getting turned on.

Oregon Law Subsidizes Sex-Change Operations for 15-Year-Olds

All I can say is that as a nation, collectively, we have lost our minds. Or at a minimum we have lost our way. We simply can’t have state sponsored mutilation of children. This is beyond insanity. I happen to agree that a fifteen year old child shouldn’t be able to get a tattoo, at least without parental consent. (And really, you should wait a few years anyway.) It’s also too young to vote, which I agree with too. They should probably be able to get an aspirin if they need one, but we can discuss that later. One thing they should absolutely not be able to do is be diagnosed with “gender dysphoria” and have their genitals surgically removed or rearranged in a way which will never be able to be fully restored. Parents across Oregon are critical of a new Medicaid program that would pay out state aid to help teenagers as young as 15 get a sex change operation without parental consent.

The new policy directs Oregon’s Medicaid program to cover sex change surgeries, puberty suppressing drugs, and cross-sex hormones for teens starting at age 15, all without consultations with a teen’s parents.

The decision to begin the program was made by the state’s Health Evidence Review Commission (HERC), a board whose members are appointed by the governor, not elected, and are unaccountable to the citizens.

HERC says that the state’s Medicaid program will cover up to $150,000 a year per patient in sex change expenses.

The medical review board issued a statement justifying its decision saying, “Age of medical consent varies by state. Oregon law–which applies to both Medicaid and non-Medicaid Oregonians — states that the age of medical consent is 15.”

But as many critics note, there is a long list of things a 15-year-old can’t do in the Beaver State. That list includes driving, smoking, giving blood, using a tanning bed, or getting a tattoo. Yet now they can get a life-changing operation and without consulting a parent?
