Why Free Enterprise Is About Morals, Not Materialism

This first video is a presentation by Arthur Brooks, author of books such as,

This is a moral argument, not a materialist one:

This is a special Serious Saturday, and I will post the videos I liked from AEI’s gallery from their contest. These are very short, maybe 2 minutes long at the most, and they must explain one of the following three ideas:

  • Free enterprise promotes earned success, which is the substance of lasting happiness.
  • Free enterprise promotes real fairness, based on merit and hard work.
  • Free enterprise does the most good for the most vulnerable by supplying both ample charity and unmatched opportunity.

Enjoy

Left v. Right

For the serious minded, here is a long debate between Arthur C. Brooks and Jim Wallace at Wheaton College:

  • On October 28, 2010, AEI president Arthur Brooks joined Sojourners CEO Jim Wallis for a conversation about the morality of free enterprise. The event was moderated by Washington Post columnist Michael Gerson and held on the campus of Wheaton College (IL) in front of an audience of 1200 students, faculty, and community members.

Faux Indian Elizabeth Warren`s [White] Family Killed Indians

Here are 5 faux Indians listed by Reason, I add one at the end #6:

1. Chief Jay Strongbow
2. F-Troop‘s Hekawi Tribe
3. Ward Churchill
4. Chief Seattle’s Phony Speech
5. Iron Eyes Cody, a.k.a. The Crying Indian
6. Obama

Breitbart has the genealogical crime scene of Elizabeth Warren’s family line:

Cherokee genealogist Twila Barnes has discovered an August 17, 1906 article from the Muskogee (Oklahama) Times Democrat which states that John H. Crawford, the great-grandfather Elizabeth Warren claims was part Cherokee, shot and probably mortally wounded an Indian who had attacked his son.

The 1906 article, which can be seen here, clearly states that Crawford is white. As Barnes describes it:

Elizabeth Warren is the granddaughter of Hannie Crawford, daughter of John H. Crawford. Warren says the Crawfords were Cherokee.

According to the Boston Globe,

“Rosco Crawford, Hannie Crawford’s brother, told (his granddaughter) that as a young boy living in the Creek Nation of Indian Territory, the Indians were “pretty mean.” Once, when a Creek was hitting Crawford’s younger brother, their father shot and wounded the Indian, according to her biography, on file at California State University at Fullerton.”

The story Hannie’s brother, Rosco, told his granddaughter is true.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection elaborates: “This clipping also helps further debunk the elopement story, as Warren’s mother’s family was identified as white even in the local paper.”

23 minutes to go. At this point Romney can probably get a Jimmy John’s, and feed it to Ann’s dressage horse while kicking a dog. I heard about something like this that happened between Sonny Barger and a mouthy guy from the Mongols in Oakland in ’65. Not pretty. Next debate, Romney should have Biden sub for him, then just sit in a folding chair next to the podium smoking a cig and filing his nails. In fact, Romney should walk past Obama in a bathobe & Speedo, grab a cup of coffee, walk back to a Laz-Z-boy and watch Cartoon Network. Then, Romney should shave, splash on some Old Spice, and do some benchpresses. 130, 140, nothing big. 10 to 15 reps.

Brokaw: If Romney Performed Like Obama Did Last Night Campaign Would Be Over

Dr. Leonard Peikoff, intellectual heir and Ayn Rand Institute founder, will vote Republican in November

Libertarian Republican points out how the GOP is home to a large portion of libertarians as of late… thanks Mr. Obama!

Ayn Rand’s intellectual heir and Ayn Rand Institute founder Dr. Leonard Peikoff recently weighed in on the upcoming November election. He brilliantly outlines the trade off voters will face contrasting Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama. As far as Dr. Peikoff is concerned, Obama is in essence a destroyer for the sake of destruction, a nihilist, the first such to become President. The object to be destroyed is America.

If he wins a second term, like Dr. Peikoff points out, Barack Obama is probably going to come fully out of the closet and finish the job of destroying the United States. The crippling taxes not only from the Democrat’s health care plan but also the possibility of his refusal to approve the Bush tax cuts along with an anti-energy policy are a few of the things we can expect from a second term. Dr. Peikoff’s biggest fear, however, is the Obama’s usage of Executive Orders. Instead of working through or with the Congress (as required by the Constitution), the President opts to rule like a monarch by decreeing things to be so such as his recent declaration on so-called Green energy industries despite the failure of companies like Solyndra and First Solar.

Dr. Peikoff’s assessment of Mitt Romney is:

Romney by contrast is not moved by passion, of any kind, good or evil. He seems to hold no political convictions, to be a textbook example of a “moderate” Republican—pragmatic, appeasing, directionless, and therefore following along in the wake of the Establishment consensus. So he too would move the country in the direction of ever-increasing statism, as Republican administrations have always done. (While I approve of the selection of Ryan, I do not believe that an isolated subordinate can change the nature or results of an administration.)

[….]

In his post, Dr Peikoff explicitly states:

I intend to vote for whatever Republicans are in my district running for the House and the Senate. Republican control of at least one of these bodies, however weakened they have become, is still some restraint on Obama if he wins.

As I pointed out in a previous discussion with some young people on Face Book, the GOP’s platform is the most Libertarian influenced in years!

I agree 100% with you when you say “while that shouldn’t be the focus of the election at all. it should be the current economic status of [A]merica…” I agree, and Romney/Ryan have a deep understanding of our fiscal problems, more than “shutting down the Fed” could solve. The Republican platform calls for an audit of the Fed, which would be the first, ever, if this happens — as well as leaning heavily on Jack Kemp’s understanding of returning to the gold standard (http://tinyurl.com/965tbzn). Which is why this has been called one of the most libertarian platforms (for the Republicans) in decades, and why many Libertarians are switching their status to GOP. One example is the former Vice Presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party in 2008, Wayne Allen Root.

I continue with the person who was very concerned with the Federal Reserve:

Scrubbing the Fed is too conspiratorial… a viewpoint I use to wholeheartedly endorse years ago. But having a party in power with young libertarian minded conservative who have the best chance at really auditing the fed, and having Ron Paul’s son head up the venture is a chance you may not get again (at least 4-years more).

Survey: `55% of physicians reported they would vote for Romney while just 36% support Obama`

The America’s Medical Society mentions that some questioning should happen at the debates:

Mr. President, please explain how you plan to maintain the same level of  medical acuity and acumen, when, within a mere two years, there will be tens of  millions of additional patients added to waiting rooms nationally?

They continue,

The President should have a prepared answer to this key concern of healthcare  providers and patients. It’s inconceivable that any question could be more  primary to the intrinsic workings of our health systems in the United States.  With all other concerns aside, nothing really matters if there are not properly  trained physicians available to evaluate and treat the added influx of thirty  million new patients.

Let’s assume that the polls are wrong, and that anywhere from thirty to  sixty-five percent of practicing doctors will not, indeed, cut back their hours or retire early in the next decade. Let’s answer this question then, honestly,  for the President in a stand-alone textbook-style essay response. There is  really only one–albeit vague and evasive–answer that the President can  give:

“…We will rely on ancillary healthcare personnel [non-physicians: nurses,  technicians, physician’s assistants] to step up and do more of the supporting  work now done by doctors.”

This is the answer that Mr. Obama’s handlers have likely prepared for him.  There is only one problem, however, with this answer: it is disingenuous and  factually incomplete.

First of all, the President’s men know very well that the decades-old slow  decline in inflation-adjusted income of physicians has already squeezed every  ounce of efficiency out of non-physician helpers in the workforce. There is no  way these ‘non-M.D.s’ can be asked to simply ‘give more’ without sacrificing  quality.

What will really happen in Obama’s new world medical order is that  non-physicians will be charged with higher levels of functioning in patient  care—assessment, treatment, and even prescription-writing, as more nurse  practitioners and (state law depending) others are required to practice medicine  without the benefit of a medical training and degree. Essentially, some will be  given the equivalent of a medical degree through legislative and executive fiat.  In other words, time-honored requirements and benchmarks for medical training  will be lowered.

Obama-Care, however, is already crumbling and has two more times to visit the Supreme Court (HHS and the “Exchanges” between states). Here is one state that took the law into their own hands, as Walter William would say, Constitutionally:

Missouri voters dealt Obamacare a significant setback yesterday, approving a statewide ballot measure with an overwhelming 71 percent of the vote.

The vote was the first time citizens had an opportunity to cast a ballot on the unpopular health care law. Missouri’s measure prohibits the federal government’s enforcement of the individual mandate to buy health insurance. The victory sends a strong message about Obamacare in a bellwether state.

A recent survey from the the third largest health care staffing company in the United States shows that most doctors are for either “repeal and replace” or “implement and improve.” These feelings work out towards the candidates in the following way:

A new survey shows Mitt Romney with a commanding lead over President Barack Obama among doctors, with Obamacare helping to sway their votes.

If the election were held today, 55 percent of physicians reported they would vote for Romney while just 36 percent support Obama, according to a survey released by Jackson & Coker, a division of Jackson Healthcare, the third largest health care staffing company in the United States

Fifteen percent of respondents said they were switching their vote from Obama in 2008 to Romney in 2012. The top reasons cited for this change was the Affordable Care Act and the failure to address tort reform.

Leadership style, failure to follow through on campaign promises, unemployment and the general state of the economy were also factors.

“Doctors are highly motivated this year to have their voice heard, particularly after passage of the Affordable Care Act,” said Sandy Garrett, president of Jackson & Coker. “No doubt, the health care law has stirred many passions in the medical community.”

Fifty-five percent of physicians said that they favored “repeal and replace” Obamacare, while 40 percent said “implement and improve”.

A Gallup poll from July found that 46 percent of Americans feel Obamacare is more harmful than helpful to the economy; 36 percent responded the opposite.

The Obama `We` All Know ~ Race Baiter

“White religionists are not capable of perceiving the blackness of God, because their satanic whiteness is a denial of the very essence of divinity. That is why whites are finding and will continue to find the black experience a disturbing reality.” quoted from James Cone’s book, A Black Theology of Liberation, page 64.

A book that was/is sold in the church’s book store the entire 20-years Obama went to the church and that his pastor promoted on Hannity and Colmes.

(See my post on this)

The Daily Caller broke some video of a 2007 speech via Obama that the legacy media “sanitized” in order to make the Obama look good. The watered down video can be see here, but make no mistake… this is the real Obama… race batting, southern drawls, and the like. Stories related via the Daily Caller:

TUCKER CARLSON: ‘This isn’t a dog whistle — this is a dog siren’
PREACTION: DNC scrambles to deflate Obama video before Daily Caller story published
FLASHBACK: JournoList plotted to kill Wright story in 2008

National Review has the portions that were taken out of the presentation to make him look good:

1. Hurricane Katrina “was a powerful metaphor for what’s gone on [in America] for generations.”
2. “It was also there — at Trinity United Church of Christ on the South Side of Chicago — that I met Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who took me on another journey and introduced me to a man named Jesus Christ. It was the best education I ever had.”
3. On his run for the Illinois State Senate: “And the second thing people would ask me gets back to the question about why we can’t seem to take the bullet out in this country and do the works and the deeds and unite this country.”
4. “[The poor] may need help with basic skills — how to show up to work on time, wear the right clothes, and act appropriately in an office. We have to help them get there. That’s why I have called for $50 million to begin innovative new job training and workforce development programs.”
5. “We need to give our young people some real choices out there so they move away from gangs and violence and connect them with growing job sectors. That is why I am also going to create a 5-E Youth Service Corps. The ‘E’s’ stand for energy efficiency, environmental education and employment. This program would directly engage disconnected and disadvantaged young people in energy efficiency and environmental service opportunities to strengthen their communities while also providing them with practical skills and experience in important and growing career field.”

Tammy Bruce posted the side-by-side comparisons of two speeches, the now known 2007 speech, with another one from 2008 (where he is not off script, i.e., on teleprompter). Here is some of her commentary:

Daily Caller came out today with a remarkable speech from Obama in June 2007, a short 9 months before Obama’s campaign race speech. Let’s just say the two a very different. Tonight Hannity presented a clip comparing a few elements of the two speeches. Obama’s hypocrisy is astounding. At the end of the clip you’ll hear Hannity and Carlsen wonder which Obama is the real Obama. I suggest neither one–both were theatre. I think it’s become quite obvious in the past 4 years that Obama’s agenda involves destroying everyone’s lives, and will morph into whatever the moment requires of him to accomplish that goal.

Here is the Tucker Carlson appearance on the Sean Hannity Show Tammy posted:

Here is the full video with the Daily Caller’s lead in, and take note that we all knew (know) who Obama IS, this is just another evidence that he is a two-bit race-hustler… like the cultural left:

In a video obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama tells an audience of black ministers, including the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, that the U.S. government shortchanged Hurricane Katrina victims because of racism.

“The people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much!” Obama shouts in the video, which was shot in June of 2007 at Hampton University in Virginia. By contrast, survivors of Sept. 11 and Hurricane Andrew received generous amounts of aid, Obama explains. The reason? Unlike residents of majority-black New Orleans, the federal government considers those victims “part of the American family.”

The racially charged and at times angry speech undermines Obama’s carefully-crafted image as a leader eager to build bridges between ethnic groups. For nearly 40 minutes, using an accent he almost never adopts in public, Obama describes a racist, zero-sum society, in which the white majority profits by exploiting black America. The mostly black audience shouts in agreement. The effect is closer to an Al Sharpton rally than a conventional campaign event.

Blacks For Romney (*LANGUAGE WARNING*)

Sorry To All the PG Readers, Couldn`t Pass Up. I will include Libertarian Republicans warning, which is where I found it:

EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE: HIGHEST WARNING. NOT SAFE FOR WORK OR FOR FAMILY VIEWING!

Remember my admonition in my bio: this is not meant to be an explicitly Christian blog. While I hold to and vehemently defend a particular worldview, I do not intend this site to be “rosy cheeked” — “pure as the driven snow” depot for faith. This site is meant for men and women who are confident enough in themselves, their faith, and their culture to know that the “holier-than-thou” lifestyle is best adhered to by those other than ourselves. So expect language and raw thoughts at times, in a respectful or satirical manner. In other words, CAUTION, “Religio-Poltical Apologetics” ahead!

Because of the political season, I cam across Tomm Fondle’s YouTube. He has some funny stuff! But it is definitely rated R for language and adult themes. LR mentions that this is done as a “dig” towards Obama, but could work in his favor: “…it’s meant to hurt the Romney campaign. But instead, it ends up being a parody of itself” (LR)
