…But Then I Started College

This comes via the Harvard Crimson… which will surely be shut down do to it violating the feelings of a minority of students (h/t to Twitchy & Truth Revolt):

I used to believe that open discourse was a value all Americans hold dear. I presumed that when asked about what makes America so unique, many Americans would respond that our pluralistic society is the foundation of so much of our success. That it was understood that without a marketplace of ideas, our society simply could not flourish.

But then I started college.

Since the beginning of my freshman year, I have come to believe that a more fitting way to describe the current culture on college campuses is a culture defined not by open expression—but by sensitivity. This undue focus on feelings has caused the college campus to often feel like a place where one has to monitor every syllable that is uttered to ensure that it could not under any circumstance offend anyone to the slightest degree. It sometimes feels as though pluralism has become an antiquated concept. Facts and history have been discarded, and instead feelings have been deemed to be the criteria that determine whether words and actions are acceptable.

It is important to have organizations and movements on college campuses that work toward protecting individuals’ identities. The past few decades have witnessed an explosion of new identities, and students should become aware of and respect the plethora of new identities that have recently emerged. But many of these movements have gone too far.

Take the University of New Hampshire’s “Bias-Free Language Guide.” The list was compiled to inform students of words that are considered offensive in conversation. According to the guide, which was removed from the school’s website a few months ago after it incited controversy, the word “American” is unacceptable, for it fails to recognize people of South American origin. “American,” it argues, should be replaced with “resident of the U.S.” The words “senior citizens,” “older people,” and “elders” should also be eliminated, and instead replaced with “people of advanced age” and “old people.” If we’re at a point where it is offensive to say that your 90-year-old grandparent is a senior citizen, it seems that pretty soon, there may not be any neutral words left.

[….]

In a class I attended earlier this semester, a large portion of the first meeting was devoted to compiling a list of rules for class discussion. A student contended that as a woman, she would be unable to sit across from a student who declared that he was strongly against abortion, and the other students in the seminar vigorously defended this declaration. The professor remained silent. In a recent conversation with peers, I posed a question about a verse from the Bible. A Harvard employee in the room immediately interjected, informing me that we were in a safe space and I was thus not permitted to discuss the controversial biblical passage. And these are just stories from the past three months.

The assaults on free expression have dire consequences. The rise of the microagression movement has been reported to be detrimental to mental health on campus. Students’ emotional distress is increasing as educators presume that fragile undergraduates need to be protected from any form of dissent. Administrators must recognize that the current restrictions are incompatible with the very premise and goal of an education.

It is time to stop focusing on feelings as the criteria for speech and actions on the college campus.

While we are on the topic of censorship… Dennis Prager gives us an update to Marquette University’s Censorship of Professor John McAdams and other students:

This next video brings a damning aspect to university campuses in that it speaks to the worst countries for freedom of speech:

Cultural Appropriation Alert: Honkeys Cannot Have Dreadlocks

To me, this is an example of the left eating itself. This hippie-dippie kid is probably left-wing, and this BLM styled activist is a leftist… and one is telling the other to groom themselves a certain way. I guess she is an employee of the university, but we will soon (like Iran) have a dress code police. Something Walter Williams coined as “lifestyle Nazis” (one and two). The positive thing that may come out of these types of experiences is that we will get more Republican voters as they leave the crazy left.

People were in a tizzy over Mitt Romney’s forced haircut on a fellow student. The Left said this prank was enough to disqualify him from the Presidency. Yet, here, we see the Left wanting to forcefully cut hair due to “cultural appropriation.” Breitbart notes:

The video begins with the woman threatening the man by asking her friend whether he has a pair of scissors.

An argument ensues as the student insists on his right to have dreadlocks regardless of the style’s cultural origins.

“You’re saying I can’t have this hairstyle because of your culture? Why?” asks the student.

“Because it’s my culture,” responds the student.

The woman proceeds to grab him as he begins to walk away from the situation. When the white student pushes back, she accuses the man of putting his hands on her….

The Fascistic Left Up To Their Usual Tricks

Dennis Prager sheds some thinking and light on the recent issue of the fascist left shutting down free speech. While I may parse a little of his position – for instance Cruz should have come out and have been clear on the main issue that this is a tactic of the left, to shut down freedom of speech while at the same time noting just how un-presidential Trump has been – Dennis Prager is still correct in his overall premise.

AND REPUBLICAN missed an opportunity to separate what conservatism “is” – the protection of all sides being heard; versus only one side using brown shirt type tactics:

✦ Groups of National Socialists invaded meetings of the society, interrupted the speaker, attempted to attack him, and endeavored to make sufficient disturbance so that the meetings would have to be cancelled.
✦ In Berlin, under the leadership of Goebbels, so-called Roll kommandos were organized for the purpose of disrupting political meetings of all non-Nazi groups. These Roll kommandos were charged with interrupting, making noise, and unnerving the speaker.

Wearing a Sombrero Is Racist (White Guilt)

Believe it or not, this is all related… teaching young minds racism early: “WHITE GUILT” Video Shown to Virginia High School Students: “The Unequal Opportunity Race” (below/right).

Breitbart brings more of this embarrassment to our attention:

Bowdoin Students in Therapy After ‘Culturally Appropriating’ Tequila Party

Bowdoin College, a private liberal arts college in Maine, has offered counseling to students who felt “injured and affected” by a group of classmates who attended a Tequila-themed birthday party on campus wearing miniature sombreros.

Two members of Bowdoin’s student government, Duncan Cannon and Claire McInerney, are now facing impeachment after the college administration launched a crackdown.

“This has to do with our social code and the context of other issues we’ve been dealing with as a college,” Bowdoin’s president, Clayton Rose, told the Portland Press Herald.

Michelle Kruk, a senior and vice president of student government, told the paper “It’s not about tequila or sombreros.”

“It’s about casual racial and ethnic stereotyping and cultural insensitivity at a school that has seen far too many examples of both.”…

And another blogger notes well the audacity of some to wear a sombrero — Valerie Love over at Watchman writes what you think is a joke, an SNL skit ~ but unfortunately… not for the cream-puffs being raised today:

…“To avoid this oversight in the future, the document details a list of “recommendations” for the school to better deal with future sombrero/tequila tragedies and what they see as a disturbing trend of “cultural appropriation” on campus.”

[….]

“Don’t buy sombreros, ponchos or fake mustaches.” – “Our culture is not for you to create costumes out of.”

“No more ‘wetback’ jokes.”

“Stop calling guacamole ‘guac.’” – Her argument is that guacamole, as a word, “has significance as it comes from indigenous Nahuatl language, so please make the effort to pronounce it in its entirety.” Less than two percent of Mexico’s population speaks Nahuatl (once known as Aztec).

Don’t modify our words to phonetically match your fraternity or sorority name.” She hates that fiesta can become “Phiesta,” for example. She hates “guakamole.”

So if you are in Boston and want to look up Dani Marrero, do not wear a poncho, sombrero or fake mustache. Do not offer to take her out for guac or attend a fiesta….

These SNL type skits will be a thing of the past however.

Comedy Break

This seems as good a place as any to post this video:

Gay Patriot has a recent post discussing this infantalizing of young America:

These snowflakes really believe that allowing people to speak opinions that are different than theirs is the worst form of oppression that has ever been visited on any people at any time in history.

No Cute/Fuzzy Pig Hats Allowed in Holland

I hope everyone buys one and wears it.

(Via Moonbattery) Until recently, Holland was famous for its tolerance. Then came the twin evils of political correctness and Islam. Now you can be dragged off to a paddy wagon by a dozen police officers for wearing a pig hat, on the grounds that pig hats are disrespectful to Muslims — even if there are no Muslims around to be offended.

White Guilt (Machosauce and Dr. Steele)

What is the White Privilege Conference? It’s just another avenue for Democrats to cash in using black people. Democrats cashed in on blacks as slaves, now they use the black struggle to gain sympathy for other causes … socialist and communistic goals.

Politicians Suddenly Turn To Theologians After Terrorist Attacks

After each terrorist attack politicians in the West suddenly turn to theologians; they start defending Islam rather than dealing with terrorism itself. How politicians like Obama, Francois Holland, or David Cameron know that Islam is a religion of peace? I wonder how much time they spent reading the Quran and trying to understand it? Did they read the biography of Muhammed for example? I can assure you none of them did, but still they give statements About Islam.

The Cultural Marxist Brainwash Exemplified ~ Dennis Prager (Updated)

An instructive call into the Dennis Prager show from a larger interview (below) exemplifies how well the university brainwashes young people. Amazingly sad.

Here is the fuller interview:

Dennis Prager interviews Olivia Legaspi of Haverford College about her recent column, “What Working At McDonald’s Taught Me About Privilege.” Some interesting calls into the show cause great insights by Dennis Prager.

This is some excellence in air time explaining what the colleges are doing to young people.

More Islamo-Fascist Work Place Violence

And this report talks about how political correctness kills… weeks earlier a person who works near the shooters home saw a bunch of Middle-Eastern men at Sayed’s home, via The Blaze:Political Correctness Kills

A man who reportedly worked near the home of one of the San Bernardino mass shooting suspects said he grew suspicious when he noticed half a dozen Middle Eastern men hanging around the area.

[….]

“We sat around lunch thinking, ‘What [were] they doing around the neighborhood?’ We’d see them leave where they’re raiding the apartment,” he said.

However, the man reportedly declined to report what he felt was suspicious behavior because he didn’t want to be accused of racial profiling.

Yes, the ideology of the left kills. So, this is a good reminder… you see half-a-dozen Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, or Christians congregating at a home… don’t call. You see that amount of Middle-Eastern men… call.

It is probably an innocent event… but it may help save lives. If people had shed the progressive leftist scales in the United Kingdom, untold children’s lives would be better.

Here is some audio from Ben Shapiro filling in for Dennis Prager speaking about the latest news from the terror attack:

“It appears that Farook was radicalized, which contributed to his motive, though other things — like workplace grievances — may have also played a role, other law enforcement sources said.”

If Syed Farook appeared and said, “I did this because of the Qur’an and Sunnah,” authorities would still be searching for a motive….

  • San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook was in touch over the phone and via social media with more than one international terrorism subject who the FBI were already investigating, law enforcement officials said.

(Jihad Watch)

One of the suspects in Wednesday’s mass shooting in California was identified as a young father who worked for the county agency that had been holding a holiday party when the carnage unfolded.

Syed Farook, believed to be 30, was linked to the horrific slaughter that left 14 dead at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

Farook’s father was shocked to learn of his son’s possible involvement in the attack.

“I haven’t heard anything,” the elder Syed Farook told the Daily News. “He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.”…

See more at:

We know who the female was that joined Syed in his killing spree… and do you think she had a Scandinavian sounding name? Nope. Tashfeen Malik, his wife. Yep, she was most likely a “devout” Muslim as well. And this is the rub… you will have to second guess even those you do not see as fanatical, but only devout:

…Co-workers told The Times they were shocked when they heard Farook, who they described as “devout,” was linked to Wednesday morning’s massacre. Two health department workers who took cover in a bathroom when the shooting occurred told the newspaper Farook was quiet and polite and didn’t seem to have any grudges.

Other colleagues said Farook was a devout Muslim who spent most of his time in the field.

He never struck me as a fanatic, he never struck me as suspicious,” Griselda Reisinger, who worked with Farook until May, told the Times. “I would say hi and bye, but we never engaged him in conversation. He didn’t say much at all.”

Reisinger added that Farook had attended the department’s holiday party last year, which was held in the same conference room where Wednesday’s shooting occurred. Baccari later said he had been sitting with Farook at the same table during the office party Wednesday morning, but his co-worker suddenly disappeared, leaving his coat on his chair…

(Fox News)

That is because these people do not know the high percentage of those in the Islamic faith support violence in reaction to life’s problems. Gateway Pundit noted the radical nature of a large percentage of Muslims:

Pew Polling found that a large percentage of Muslim youths in the West support suicide bombing.

The higher levels of support for suicide bombing seen among young American Muslims resembles patterns found among Muslims in Europe, where Muslims also constitute a minority population. In Great Britain, France and Germany, Muslims under the age of 30 are consistently the least likely to say that suicide bombing is never justified.

In other words, the share who think suicide bombing against civilians can ever be justified, even if rarely, is higher among those younger than 30 compared with those who are older. About a quarter (26%) of younger U.S. Muslims say suicide bombing can at least rarely be justified, 17 percentage points higher than the proportion of Muslims ages 30 and older (9%) who share that view. The age gap is about as wide in Great Britain (18 percentage points) but somewhat narrower in Germany (12 points), France (11 points) and Spain (7 points).
