Napoleon Bonaparte (Prager U)

He was the most famous man of his time – so much so that his name still defines his age. Born on an obscure island into humble circumstances, he rose to conquer a continent. Yet most today know little of him beyond their impression from popular caricature. His improbable story and its far-reaching consequences – both positive and negative – are the subject of this video from renowned historian and Napoleon scholar Andrew Roberts.

The French Election Explained

I grabbed this whole interview, partly because I think it is important to better know who these candidates are that I had some misconceptions about myself. Dennis Prager interviews Philippe Karsenty (TWITTER) about the French elections that took place and are coming up.

Recently, I came across these two sentences that made me rethink my thoughts on the two main characters:

  • “…Macron’s pledges of gradual deregulation in France and cuts in state expenditure and the civil service are the kind of talk global financial markets like to hear. Le Pen wants to print money to finance expanded welfare payments and tax cuts, ditch the euro currency and possibly pull out of the EU, all of which raise huge uncertainties….” (REUTERS)

In conversation between some friends, one mentioned Marine Le Pen’s connection to racist ideologies via her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who founded the National Front Party in 1972. HEAVY has 5-facts on him that make me wary of Marine, including his apparent denials of the Holocaust.

At any rate, I am thank to Philippe for bringing more clarity to the issue.

Muslim Gang Members Threaten French Man… Surprise!

Wintery Knight has an excellent post on how guns cut crime… ending the post with the above video and the his concluding thoughts:

Again, no shots were fired. Nobody was hurt. That’s why people own guns – to avoid violence, not to cause violence.

Learn about the issue

To find the about guns and self-defense, look in the academic literature. Here are two books I really like for that.

Both of those books make the case that permitting law-abiding citizens to own firearms for self-defense reduces the rate of violent crime.

Meanwhile, in Germany, women are dragged into subways to be raped by “migrants” [e.g., Muslims] (h/t, Creeping Sharia).

I bet these German’s wish they had a 2nd Amendment:

Footage From A French Cafe During Shooting

The video is via The Daily Mail. The Blaze points out that some women out in front of the cafe had a miraculous intervention:

  • A particularly chilling moment in the video appeared to show the Islamist gunman aim his AK-47 point blank at a woman hiding under an outdoor table. After trying to fire unsuccessfully – either because the gun jammed or ran out of ammunition – the gunman walked away, allowing the woman to escape.

Wow.

Larry Elder Puts Democrats “War on Terror” In the Bastille

This is classic Larry Elder! He takes us on a whirlwind tour of Democratic hypocrisy and dangerous foreign policy positions for political expediency.

Here is the Bush “quote” used in the audio.

42% of “French” Muslims Agree w/Suicide Bombing

Gateway Pundit noted the radical nature of a large percentage of Muslims:

Pew Polling found that a large percentage of Muslim youths in the West support suicide bombing.

The higher levels of support for suicide bombing seen among young American Muslims resembles patterns found among Muslims in Europe, where Muslims also constitute a minority population. In Great Britain, France and Germany, Muslims under the age of 30 are consistently the least likely to say that suicide bombing is never justified.

In other words, the share who think suicide bombing against civilians can ever be justified, even if rarely, is higher among those younger than 30 compared with those who are older. About a quarter (26%) of younger U.S. Muslims say suicide bombing can at least rarely be justified, 17 percentage points higher than the proportion of Muslims ages 30 and older (9%) who share that view. The age gap is about as wide in Great Britain (18 percentage points) but somewhat narrower in Germany (12 points), France (11 points) and Spain (7 points).

“The Good Wife’ Had More Obama Officials Than Paris Rally” ~ Jake Tapper

Via Lonely Conservative:

Former White House spokesman Jay Carney appeared on CNN to defend the Obama administration’s decision not to send any high ranking officials to the march against terrorism in France over the weekend. It came out today that neither President Obama nor Vice President Biden had much going on, so the administration is using the excuse that security would have been a nightmare. That didn’t fly with CNN’s Jake Tapper, who pointed out that the show “The Good Wife” has more representation from the Obama administration than the Paris march had.

“There may not be any question about the resolve of the United States and the alliance, and as has been pointed out by President Obama, among others, France is the United States of America’s oldest ally,” Tapper said. “But you know who was the first world leader to visit the United States after 9/11? Jacques Chirac went to Washington D.C. and New York City. There is something special about this relationship. Two independent countries, two independent nations born around the same time, with in the same decade. Certainly you’ll grant the point that there’s something wrong when this season’s ‘The Good Wife’ had higher Obama representation, with a cameo from Valerie Jarrett, than this very important rally, perhaps the most important rally in Europe in a generation. And it’s described here as the biggest rally in French history.” (Read More)

Washington Post Surprised Gun Control Didn’t Work as Advertised

Editors note: below is a GRAPHIC video of a police officer being executed — filmed from a building. I can’t help to think that if this was in Texas someone from that same vantage point would have a clear shot to dissuade such an execution, and, maybe kill a bad guy (if the person was a good shot with a pistol).

  • “Three policemen had arrived on bikes but had to leave because the men were armed, obviously… Then the attackers took off in a car.” (HotAir)

Gay Patriot notes the Washington Posts amazement that gun control doesn’t work:

Since 1939, France has had the kind of “Common Sense Gun Control Laws” that groups financed by Mike Bloomberg claim to favor (although the laws don’t go far enough, in their view, because they still permit a small number of private citizens to own firearms.) The editorialists at the Washington Post are baffled why France’s strict gun laws failed to prevent the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

A genuinely troubling question: Why didn’t France’s gun laws save the Charlie Hebdo victims?

[….]

There is no right to bear arms for the French, and to own a gun, you need a hunting or sporting license which needs to be repeatedly renewed and requires a psychological evaluation.

You mean the Mohammedan terrorists refused to apply for gun permits or sit for psychological valuations, but decided to get guns anyway? Jamais dans la vie!…

Keep in mind that police officer that was executed was unarmed as well as the three police officers that responded on bicycle to the Charlie Hebdo attack that turned tail and ran the other way. BECAUSE they were UNARMED!

  • CBS News relayed reports from Britain’s Telegraph newspaper that the first two officers to arrive “were apparently unarmed” and “fled after seeing gunmen armed with automatic weapons and possibly a grenade launcher.”
  • The UK’s Independent reported that “three policemen arrived on bikes but had to leave because [the attackers] were armed.” A policeman who had been assigned the position of bodyguard to Charlie Hebdo editor, Stephane Charbonnier, was killed, and one policeman on a mountain bike was killed, as well.
