On Friday, the NBC Nightly News took the time to devote an entire story to the case of a Michigan woman who survived a near-death experience which illustrates that doctors can sometimes make the wrong diagnosis and give up on comatose patients too soon…. (NEWSBUSTERS)
Miracles
Are Miracles Even Possible? David Hume
Here is Hume’s basic premise:

If science is based on the law of causality then do miracles get in the way? Scientist and philosopher John Lennox explores this question, which was made popular by David Hume.
Some quotes:
Christians claim that the birth, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ is the central chapter of world history. How do you measure such a one-off event? The writer, C.S. Lewis develops a reliable test: Does this “Grand Miracle” fit in with the rest of the Author’s other work – Nature itself?
Josh McDowell Shares His Struggle With Circumstances and Coming to Faith
We have had some great commencement and convocation speeches these past few weeks, and some really horrible ones. But Liberty University — I don’t think — was ready for this honest, and at times, raw, testimony. Josh McDowell’s struggle against the odds and his hatred/blame of God creating seemingly insurmountable hurdles in his life that made coming to faith in Jesus Christ impossible to the natural mind. But we deal with a miraculous God:
Matthew 19:26
- But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
- Jesus looked hard at them and said, “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.” (The Message)
Josh McDowell is a prolific apologetic writer who has written classics in the defense of the Christian faith, based on his own skepticism. But only recently has he talked about his childhood and expanded on what drove him to this skepticism. The movie of this is called Undaunted (2012), and it is a must watch.
I wish to thank Pastor Matt in bringing this speech to my attention. And I ask you settle in and enjoy the huge dose of God’s hand working in one man’s life:

John Lennox (Ph.D.) Examines David Hume and The Law of Causality In Regards to Miracles (Serious Saturday)

Dr. Daniel Janosik Gives a Lecture On Whether Miracles Are Possible,Credible,Evidential,or Historical (Serious Saturday)
Professor: “Miracles are impossible Sean, don’t you know science has disproven them, how could you believe in them [i.e., answered prayer, a man being raised from the dead, etc.].”
Student: “for clarity purposes I wish to get some definitions straight. Would it be fair to say that science is generally defined as ‘the human activity of seeking natural explanations for what we observe in the world around us’?”
Professor: “Beautifully put, that is the basic definition of science in every text-book I read through my Doctoral journey.”
Student: “Wouldn’t you also say that a good definition of a miracle would be ‘and event in nature caused by something outside of nature’?”
Professor: “Yes, that would be an acceptable definition of ‘miracle.’”
Student: “But since you do not believe that anything outside of nature exists [materialism, dialectical materialism, empiricism, existentialism, naturalism, and humanism – whatever you wish to call it], you are ‘forced’ to conclude that miracles are impossible”

Miracle? More Like Coincidence
(Geese On The Mall Normally)
I love some of what Glenn Beck goes after, but, having said that — he seems at times a bit into messianism. I don’t mean as “into the Messiah,” Jesus. I mean that within LDS theology you have people like Beck who believe they will be exalted to be a god of their own planet. In fact, this exaltation can come early… as in the case of Jesus, who was exalted first in heaven BEFORE coming to earth. So his saying Geese flying over water is a miracle, I doubt seriously his understanding of what a miracle is.
C.S. Lewis says that a miracle is something that comes totally out of the blue. If for thousands of years a woman can become pregnant only by sexual intercourse with a man, then if she were to become pregnant without a man, it would be a miracle. [12][13][14]
I am hard pressed to classify this as a miracle. Even if God ordained this flight of geese at this time, it is still not “miraculous” in the sense of natural law being temporarily paused. Geese fly in these formations all the time down this small body of water. However, IF the Mormon god exists [Heavenly Father], then some geese flying in formation is one of the grandest miracles I would think he could perform. So in Glenn Beck’s eyes… yup, this is a miracle. But for people who think God created even the space-time continuum (Mormons do not), this is pittance.
