Democrats Say They Aren’t Grabbing Our Guns… Well…

Leftist Democrats in two cities start grabbing guns, literally.

Michael Medved discusses another lie from the left, “we aren’t trying to grab your guns!” Um, yes you are… literally! Here is an excerpt from the WASHINGTON TIMES:

  • A unanimous vote by village trustees Deerfield, Illinois, this week is primed to turn many legal gun owners into criminals on June 13. Fines of up to $1,000 per day will face citizens this summer if they ignore a ban on “semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns with certain features.”

There is a longer video of some council meeting video from Deerfield, HERE.

This comes by way of the DAILY WIRE:

Second Amendment Foundation Files Suit Against Chicago Suburb For ‘Assault Weapon’ Gun Grab

On Thursday, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed a lawsuit against the Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois for their recent gun ban passed by the Village Board of Trustees.

As reported by The Daily Wire earlier this week, the ban passed Monday night “outlaws any weapon the village leaders deem ‘assault weapons,’ including AR-15s. But the ban also includes ‘semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns with certain features.'”

Those who do not comply with the ordinance — which is set to take effect on June 13 — will face up to $1,000 fines per day.

In a press release announcing the lawsuit, SAF confirmed that the Illinois State Rifle Association and a gun-owning private citizen from the village named Daniel Easterday would be joining them in their legal action.

The suit was filed in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in Lake County and the plaintiffs are represented by Glen Ellyn attorney David Sigale.

“The lawsuit challenges the village ban under a 2013 amended state statute that declared ‘the regulation of the possession or ownership of assault weapons are exclusive powers and functions of this State. Any ordinance or regulation, or portion of that ordinance or regulation, that purports to regulate the possession or ownership of assault weapons in a manner that is inconsistent with this Act, shall be invalid…'” explains the news release.

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said the gun ban “flies in the face of state law.”

“While the village is trying to disguise this as an amendment to an existing ordinance, it is, in fact, a new law that entirely bans possession of legally-owned semi-auto firearms, with no exception for guns previously owned, or any provision for self-defense,” Gottlieb said.

“The new ordinance also provides for confiscation and destruction of such firearms and their original capacity magazines,” he continued. “What is particularly outrageous about this new law is that it levies fines of up to $1,000 a day against anyone who refuses to turn in their gun and magazines or move them out of the village by the time the ordinance takes effect in June. THIS CERTAINLY PUTS THE LIE TO CLAIMS BY ANTI-GUNNERS THAT ‘NOBODY IS COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS.'”……..

Negative Returns of Investment — Alternative Energy Fail!

Hot Air has this wonderful story with it’s said humorous point at the end of my excerpt of the Hot Air excerpt:

This week’s installment of how renewable energy will save America is brought to you by Watts Up With That. It’s the heartwarming tale of Lake Land College in Illinois, where the administration decided to save some money and strike a blow for clean energy back in 2012 by installing a pair of wind turbines to produce clean, renewable power for the school. Putting up equipment like that isn’t cheap, though, so they arranged for some help from Uncle Sam (read: you the taxpayers) in the form of a $987,697.20 grant. The towers went up and the blades began turning.

That, however, was when the story (unexpectedly!) took a turn…

The turbines were funded by a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, but the turbines lasted for less than four years and were incredibly costly to maintain.

“Since the installation in 2012, the college has spent $240,000 in parts and labor to maintain the turbines,” Kelly Allee, Director of Public Relations at Lake Land College, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The college estimates it would take another $100,000 in repairs to make the turbines function again after one of them was struck by lightning and likely suffered electrical damage last summer. School officials’ original estimates found the turbine would save it $44,000 in electricity annually, far more than the $8,500 they actually generated. Under the original optimistic scenario, the turbines would have to last for 22.5 years just to recoup the costs, not accounting for inflation. If viewed as an investment, the turbines had a return of negative 99.14 percent.

[….]

It’s reminiscent of another story from the same part of the country. Going back roughly six years we learned that their neighbors in Minnesota put up a major wind turbine installation only to find out that the bearings in the turbines froze up in the winter and were similarly taken out of service. For the slower readers in the green energy movement, allow me to spell that out a bit more clearly.

The wind turbines were essentially destroyed because they froze

In the winter

…In Minnesota….

While these parts can be used for future engineering classes and the like… the whole venture is better suited for the econ classes to use as an example that without the government confiscating money and propping up ventures that do not work… they would be (in a free-market) thrown into the heap-bin of history. Feds Order High School To Allow Boys To Use Girls’ Shower

…and yet they still vote Democrat. Dennis Prager starts the talk by comparing police officers voting Democrat for their pensions only. Then he reads from a NYTs story that says the “Illinois [school] District Violated [a] Transgender Student’s Rights.” Actually, the school bent over backwards to accommodate the student. And why do parents continue to vote Democrat? Prager finishes the segment with an answer.

Union Votes Out Their Jobs? Crazy!

Firearm Blog has some news relating to jobs and unions. The post is entitled, Union negotiations fail. Olin (Winchester) moves 1000 jobs, and is a prime example of the insane policies of the Left. The percentage split below is almost the same as a recent story (Washington Post/ABC News Poll 11-1-10) that notes that union households back the Democratic candidate in their district over the GOP by a 54 to 42 percent margin.

Republican union members, then, almost saved these jobs mentioned below. Almost.

Olin Corp. is moving its Winchester Centerfire plant to Mississippi after the Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 9. Union rejected their proposed contract for the second time. BND.com reports….

[….]

Just 56% voted to reject the contract. From what I have read it does not sound like any of the parties were at fault. Winchester wanted to cut costs and just under half the union employees were willing to accept a wage freeze. A slight majority wanted to rather relocate (and risk their co-workers jobs) rather than earn less in the future. The real loser here is the community of East Alton, IL who are losing a major employer.
