Hobby Lobby Responds to Slanted Media with Public Statement

From Libertarian Republican:

From Eric Dondero:

Being passed around the right-o-sphere. As far as we know, we here at LR are the first explicitly libertarian group to join the effort. (Where ya at Cato, Reason, Libertarian Party?) We urge libertarian Republicans to shop Hobby Lobby. And use this latest case against any Democrats and Obama supporters you may know. Especially those who like to shop at Hobby Lobby.

Support Hobby Lobby in The Fight for Religious Liberty. The Green family isn’t only fighting for its right to religious liberty, but ours, too. Send a thank you note to the Greens (Becketfund.org) letting them know you’re standing by their side. Government forced Hobby Lobby to choose: Violate your conscience and stay in business or remain faithful to your conscience and be penalized up to 1.3 million dollars per day. Hobby Lobby chose to sue the government for their right – and ours – to operate their business in full accord with their faith.

Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp ~ Luby’s Restaurant Massacre

From Video Description:

In one of the most powerful interviews of the Documentary “Michael & Me,” Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp (also seen here in testimony before Congress – 1991) talks intimately about her experience inside of Luby’s Restaurant. (Posted by: Religio-Political Talk) In a comment on my blogs Facebook, I mention this experience as a stark reminder of where we SHOULD be focusing our attention:

—————————————————–

At any rate, I am not against making 20-round mags the legal option, but, as you can visually see even this is no deterrent to a man wanting to kill. This guy in Sandy Hook shot himself when first responders [with guns] where coming into a gun free zone — no firefight. The guy in the Clackamus Mall shot himself when he saw a citizen with a gun in a gun free zone — no firefight. The theater shooter had seven movie theaters within a twenty minute car-ride from his apartment, he didn’t go to the largest one, or the closest one, he went to the only one that banned guns (RPT).

Kimba, passing a law making it harder to load a gun will only make you “feel good,” it is not practical and will not lessen these horrible crimes. Allowing citizens easier access to conceal and carry will ensure the safety of people and our children much more than banning how big a magazine is Kimba. WE KNOW THIS WORKS, it is proven. Why do the thing that makes someone feel good and do something that we know works?

Here is a powerful story from the documentary “Michael & Me,” by Larry Elder. What do you think would have stopped Michael Griffith from stalking and killing 23 people in Luby’s Restaurant Kimba? Smaller magazines? OR an armed citizenry? (You see Kimba, your anger and sadness are placed towards the wrong thing… not at the legislature for allowing an easier armed citizenry, but on a maniac and inanimate objects.)

An SCV Crush ~ Local Winemakers Nate Hasper and Steve Lemley Talk about Their `Crush`

SCV Custom Crush Services, by Eve’s Wine 101

After months of knowing that Pulchella winemakers Nate Hasper and Steve Lemley had built the first crush pad in Santa Clarita, and not being able to release the news, I was chomping at the bit to get in there and check it out.

It finally happened.  I got all of my questions answered, and then some, when my editor Michael Perlis and I had our tour.  And if you just want the basics, click here for the news release.  If not, here’s the full skinny:

First, for my wine 101ers: What is a crush pad?  It’s a winemaking facility to which the grapes are transported after harvest, the stems and leaves are removed, the grapes are crushed and then all of the stages of fermentation – turning juice into wine – are closely managed by the winemakers.

In this case the winemakers are UC Davis-educated and bring a wealth of knowledge, and love, to the process.

“We’ve crushed 50 tons total since we opened.” Steve began.  “But it’s been a long haul.  The city was very supportive, happy that we were building the facility.  However with the health department we hit all red tape and walls. The health department does not have a winery specific category so being forced to be categorized generically required us to implement tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary and not industry standard requirements to open. Never the less, Santa Clarita has a hospital grade winery now…  We worked together to complete the project.”

And why do it?  Why not continue picking your grapes in Paso Robles and crushing there?  Because they live here.  “We couldn’t be watching over the process every single day so that meant we couldn’t make the wine the way we wanted to.  We were clients in a crush pad long enough to learn how to do it.”

`When placed in command-take charge` ~ General H. Norman Schwarzkopf Passes

(WaPo) WASHINGTON — Truth is, retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf didn’t care much for his popular “Stormin’ Norman” nickname.

The seemingly no-nonsense Desert Storm commander’s reputed temper with aides and subordinates supposedly earned him that rough-and-ready moniker. But others around the general, who died Thursday in Tampa, Fla., at age 78 from complications from pneumonia, knew him as a friendly, talkative and even jovial figure who preferred the somewhat milder sobriquet given by his troops: “The Bear.”

The Man Who Shot And Killed First Responders Banned from Owning Firearms (Gun-Control)

The story as it broke in the news:

Police in New York state say a man who ambushed firefighters had served 17 years for manslaughter in the death of his grandmother.

Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering says 62-year-old William Spengler was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

Police say he set fire to a car and house to lure firefighters to his house on the shore of Lake Ontario early Monday.

When firefighters arrived, he opened fire, probably with a rifle. Two firefighters died at the scene and two others were hospitalized. A fifth first responder was injured.

Here is a comment on the Twitterverse fairy-tale land of liberals from Breitbart:

While liberals on Twitter pointed at the shooting of four firefighters in upstate New York as evidence that more gun control is necessary, NBC News reports that the gunman, one William Spengler, was already banned from owning guns.

Spengler served 17 years in prison for killing his grandmother with a hammer in 1980. He was convicted only of manslaughter, and was paroled in 1998. It seems that stronger sentencing for convicted murderers might be a more worthwhile goal of liberals seeking to prevent gun violence.

In the story linked to the picture of the suspect… the gun, almost identical to the one used in the Sandy Hook murders, was described as an “assault weapon/rifle.” These are already banned. This is a wrong description, but the continued killing was halted when an off-duty policeman showed up:

Several firefighters went beneath the truck to shield themselves as an off-duty police officer who came to the scene pulled his vehicle alongside the truck to try to shield them, authorities said.

The first police officer who arrived chased and exchanged shots with Spengler, recounting it later over his police radio.

“I could see the muzzle blasts comin’ at me. … I fired four shots at him. I thought he went down,” the officer said.

At another point, he said: “I don’t know if I hit him or not. He’s by a tree. … He was movin’ eastbound on the berm when I was firing shots.” Pickering portrayed the officer as a hero who saved many lives.
